About Declan

Qualifications

I am a Chartered Counselling Psychologist who is registered with The Health Care Professions Counsel and the British Psychological Society. I began my training in Cardiff Metropolitan University by completing a BSc in Psychology.

Following this I gained invaluable experience in the voluntary sector by working with vulnerable teenagers and adults in the education sector. During this time I also completed a Certificate in Interpersonal Communication in the University College Cork. I then moved to Middlesbrough to complete my Doctorate in Counselling Psychology.

I have continued to enhance my professional development by regularly undertaking various training seminars and courses and attending regular supervision.

Experience

I have over 10 years of experience working in the public mental health sector. During much of that time I have been helping patients with various health conditions such as chronic pain, cancer, nerve damage, etc.

I also work extensively with issues such as depression, anxiety and stress. In my private practice to date I have worked successfully with clients who present with any number of the above issues and more.

Therapeutic Approach

I work in a very integrative fashion with clients in therapy. This means that each therapeutic approach is tailored to meet the needs of the client I am working with. In essence I am aware that each therapy needs to be created for the client and therefore I will endeavour to create a therapy around your needs.
